Project 02/2017 Final report of our sponsoring of the childrens intensive care unit of the Holy Family Mission Hospital, Phalombe, Malawi, Africa

Recently we received a final report from MalawiMed e.V. Heidelberg in which the young doctors and doctor aspirants of the University Heidelberg reffered about the progress of our supported aid project 02/2017 for the Childrens Intensive Care Unit of the Holy Family Mission Hospital Phalombe, Malawi, Africa.

We are happy to give here a short summery of the final project report of our former common project 02/2017 “Health treatment for children with serious illnesses in the Holy Family Mission Hospital, Phalombe, Malawi”. End of May 2019 we received the report directly from Phalombe, Malawi by the young medical doctors and medical students of the University Heidelberg/Germany who are supporting the Holy Family Mission Hospital in Malawi.

They reported, that with our donation of 3.500,- € necessary medical equipment and medicine could be purchased to treat the infected children. Especially illnesses like Malaria, skin burns, diarrhoea and underfeeding is often and wide spread under children and sometimes it comes to a deadly final going along with cardiovascular disease and pneumonia. The doctors have to use antibiotics and the provision with fresh oxygen to safe the children. As this provision in the children’s department of the Hospital at present was only insufficient possible, the doctors of MalawiMed could purchase the necessary medical equipment (oxygen devices, heart rate measurement equipment) and medicine which could be installed at two (2) new intensive children’s beds. The total costs of 3.525,13 € could be covered nearly complete by our donation.
