This project is to ensure that in the poor region of Alupe, the medical health care will be sustainably improved as well as the potential of education and subsequent employment.

This region has a high death rate, illness and by the steady poverty there is a need for help.

The German Ministry of Economic Collaboration and Development (BMZ) restock the financing and project handling with 75% of the needed investment costs, the management and processing control will be under the auspices of Support Africa Germany.

The equipment of the birth ward comprises mother-child beds, medical treatment equipment (incubators, gynaecological chairs, medical devices and technical units).

Sensitive medical units are generally purchased by SAD in new condition and for other clinic resorts used equipment will be purchased and refurbished completely by SAD.  Refurbishing works will be done in the facilities of SAD in Nassau where they have a large storehouse to complete and to collect the finished material equipment just in time and to make it ready for shipment to Africa.

This project is to ensure that in the poor region of Busia County (370.608 inhabitants), the medical health care will be sustainably improved as well as the potential of education and subsequent employment. Additional information of the project coordinator Support Africa Germany:

The aim of Support Africa is the promotion of education and research in Sub-Sahara Africa. Emphasis is given to the development of universities. The major task of the Foundation is to acquire sponsors, co-founders and donors for maintaining a strong economic basis. SAD is mostly cooperating in their projects with the Germany Ministry of Economy Collaboration and Development (BMZ) from which they get up to 75% financial support to finance the projects.

Further information can be obtained from their Homepage www.support-africa.de  In a discussion with the President of SAD, Prof. Dr. Baldur Pfeiffer, he introduced us about their finished projects and references e.g. in Ethiopia, Ghana, Republic of Congo, Kenya, Cameron, Uganda and South of Sudan. SAD e.g. installed university hospitals, water providing plants, schools and agriculture development projects.

The total investment of this project “Birth Ward Alupe” is amounting to approx. € 350.000,-- whereby 75% of the investment amount will be carried out by the BMZ and SAD absorbs (10%)of the costs. Even the young Alupe University does bring in 15% of the investment amount to modernize the hospital.

By the high engagement of the German Ministry of Economic Collaboration and Development (BMZ) and the increase of capital investment by SAD a contribution by the Dieter and Bettina Wulkow Foundation will be nearly tripled. This makes our engagement efficient and it helps to alleviate suffering and poverty of the affected people in Busia region/Alupe, West Kenya. Also the education of the medical professions and nurses will be positively influenced by our engagement.
