Update on Funding Project 01/2025: Support for the home Rising Eagles/Safe Haven in Struisbaai, South Africa, for abused and vulnerable children

With a co-funding of €2,500, we are supporting the children of the Rising Eagles/Safe Haven childrens home at the southernmost tip of the African continent. Founded many years ago by Seloma Gouws under the umbrella of Meals on Wheels and managed by her with great dedication, the home accommodates children traumatized by abuse, sexual, and domestic violence, who require ongoing psychological trauma treatment and a loving environment.

The children are housed there for weeks, months, or even years. They have a beautiful home and grow up in a peaceful, loving community. They are taken to school, picked up by the school bus, and after lunch, does their homework with the careers, play games, or do crafts together. With our co-funding (see also Project 01/2025), we cover the costs of psychological trauma treatment for the affected children and support a gardening project where the children can plant their own flower or vegetable beds, which they then take care of and harvest themselves. The children also help paint the shelter walls of the home under the guidance and assistance of an artist.

Seloma recently submitted an interim report and sent us photos of the implementation of the measures we supported in the co-project. The protective walls have already been painted, and work has begun on landscaping the garden beds. Psychological trauma treatments are also taking place regularly.
